Buy Liposic Drops for an alternative to Sodium Hyaluronate Drops
Most dry eye drops on mEYEspa are bases on the highly effective - Sodium Hyaluronate. However, one size does not fit all and some patients just to not get the expected relief from this popular lubricant.
In our clinic, plan B is often Liposic Drops. Although they do have a preservative, the positive benefits of the different lubrication components can outweigh this negative. Typical dosage is two times per day ongoing.
The main ingredient for ocular surface help are:
Carbomer 980 (Carbopol 980)
-
What it is: A synthetic, high-molecular-weight polymer that acts as a thickening/gelling agent.
-
Benefit for the eye:
-
Forms a viscous gel-like layer that adheres to the ocular surface, prolonging the contact time of the drops.
-
Provides long-lasting lubrication, which is especially useful for moderate to severe dry eye.
-
Stabilizes the tear film and reduces evaporation.
-
Sorbitol
-
What it is: A sugar alcohol with humectant (moisture-attracting) properties.
-
Benefit for the eye:
-
Helps retain water on the ocular surface, preventing dehydration.
-
Contributes to a smoother consistency of the gel.
-
Can provide a mild osmoprotective effect—helping protect corneal and conjunctival cells against hyperosmolar stress (a key factor in dry eye disease).
-
Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs)
-
What they are: Fatty acids derived from natural oils (like coconut oil), used in ophthalmic formulations.
-
Benefit for the eye:
-
Contribute to the lipid layer of the tear film, reducing evaporation of tears.
-
Provide a protective, lubricating effect.
-
Can stabilize the tear film and improve ocular surface comfort.
-
MCTs are better tolerated than some other oils because they are less likely to cause blurred vision or leave a greasy residue.
-
The Liposic line of products (drops and gel) are a great value for dry eye protection.
Liposic does contain a preservative (Cetrimide)
For the gel form, there is more great information about Dry Eye and CPAP machine use available within the mEYEspa blog pages.
