When we were working through her symptoms, a recent patient of mine came up with this perfect description for the way her eyelids felt... Gritchy.

"Itchy Gritty Gritchy Eyes"

Both gritty and itchy are symptoms of ocular issues but when combined on the lids then cause is almost always Blepharitis.  There are many types of blepharitis but the hallmarks or all are:

  • debris on lids/lashes especially in the morning
  • a feeling like something in the eye much of the time
  • bumps or redness at lid margin
  • itching at edge of lid
  • minor chronic eye redness or tearing
